Engaging Vermonters in saving energy

May 14, 2012

Tamarack was recently pulled into an exciting collaboration with Vermont Energy Investment Corporation, Vermont Natural Resources Council, Ben & Jerry’s and climate activist Kathy Blume to develop a web-based game to empower Vermonters to save energy.  Or in Vermontivate-speak: “a community energy game of wild and epic proportions.” The five-week competition has begun with the launch of the game’s website and Facebook page. The development of the website (built in Drupal with all the social media bells and whistles) was supported through Bill’s TogetherGreen fellowship and reflects over a year of researching and thinking about how social media and video game theory could be harnessed to create a fun and engaging experience around saving energy and fighting climate change.

Meet the Gamemasters: Jersey Jill the Moostress of Play, Young Stanley the Baahron of Engagement, Scratchy Dave the Captain of Kudos, and Madam Phoebe the Muse of Possibility (artwork by Scott Einsig of Red Birch Studio).

Live in Vermont? Sign up to play the game and your town could win a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream social!
